Community Cornerstone

from Supt. Dr. Tracy Smith

March 12, 2026

Dear NUSD Families and Community,

As we navigate the current landscape of our world and country, it is impossible to ignore the weight of the events unfolding around us. Between global conflicts and the general sense of unrest, it often feels as though we are living through a period of constant "moving parts" and collective chaos.

These events do not stay outside our school campuses. They are deeply felt by our staff, our students, and by each of you. When the world feels unpredictable, our schools become even more vital as anchors of safety and consistency.

To help us support one another and our students, please find reminders/resources below:

Supporting Our Students
When students sense global tension, they often look to the adults in their lives for cues on how to process it.

Thank you and your family for being a part of NUSD. Your dedication to our students and our community at large—even when the world feels heavy—is what makes this district resilient.

Please reach out to your site administrators or the district office if you or your student need additional support in any way.

With gratitude,

Dr. Tracy Smith
Superintendent

Neurodiversity Celebration Week - March 16 -20, 2026

Next week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a time to appreciate and celebrate the many ways people think, learn, and experience the world. Neurodiversity reminds us that differences such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences are natural variations of the human brain. Across NUSD, we are committed to creating inclusive learning environments where every student’s strengths are recognized and valued.
